7 SIGNS TO SUCCESS

But the question is, ARE YOU TRADING WELL?

There is only one way to find out…

I have seven important signs or traits, that every trader needs to see if they’re trading well.

If these seven signs are ticked then you are well on your way to be a successful trader, after the market storm calms down.

Here they are…

Sign #1: Passion to trade

First and foremost, you need to have the passion to learn how to trade and actually sit down every day and look, analyse, execute and monitor your trades.

Without passion, you’ll feel like it’s being at the rat race and you won’t enjoy the process…

Sign #2: Proper trading routine

If you find you have the passion to trade, then you’ll need to work around a consistent trading routine. For example. Each morning I:

  1. Make coffee

  2. Open my charting platform

  3. Analyse the main trends and read the news on what happened over night

  4. Look for trading setups according to my watchlist (list of markets I look at).

  5. Plug in my trading levels and execute the trades.

Then I work on my other businesses and travel to different places where I have the time to let the market do it’s thing.

Sign #3: Strict money management trading rules

You’ll need to have certain rules  to follow in order to protect your portfolio from the downside.

This way you’ll stay in the game longer without losing your shirt.

Some rules I like to follow are:

  1. Never risk more than 2% per trade.

  2. Never have more than 8 trades opened at any one time.

  3. Once my portfolio is down -18%, halt my trading until the markets turn up.

Sign #4: Have a system to follow

With any trading routine, process and rules – you’ll need to have a proven and back-tested trading strategy that not only has strict rules for entry and exit but also which matches your personality.

So with any system you’ll have the rule for:

System: What trading system you’ll follow whether it’ll be with price, volume or indicators.

Entry (Where to get into your trade)

Stop loss (Where to place your risk level, in case your trade goes against you)

Take profit (Where to place your reward level, for when your trade goes for you).

Volume: How many CFDs you must buy in order to keep to your risk management.

 Sign #5: You’re psychologically prepared

With trading comes not only winners and rewards but also risks and losses.

You’ll need to prepare your mind to lose and win, and to focus on not becoming too emotional with your trading.

Work on developing a neutral mind set as if you are the stock market, without any feelings.

Sign #6: Tunnel vision

Once you have your system, processes, rules, routine, time etc… make sure you don’t fall for looking at anything else.

You need to have tunnel vision so you don’t get distracted by other traders, investors, news, announcements and any hype.

Follow what you know works, proven and what suits you best.

Sign #7: Have trading goals

When you start trading, you need to see some type of game plan ahead. At the end of the day, it’s all about growing a financially consistent portfolio (with winners and losers).

When you have a trading journal that is back-tested, forward tested and real tested, you can see more or less what results have yielded over the years.

This way you can have an understanding on what kind of financial results you can expect each year.

Some trading goals you can have ready are:

  1. How many trades will you take a year?

  2. How many trades will be winners?

  3. How many trades will be losers?

  4. What is your trading win rate?

  5. What percentage return can you expect to earn?

  6. What is your biggest drawdown (downside) you can expect?

These 7 signs, should give you a great indication on whether you’re on the path to being a successful and profitable trader.

5 Stupid Trading Advice Points

There is the right way to motivate your trading and there is the wrong way.

Very wrong way.

You will be told what you should do by new and inexperienced traders which could have a major negative effect on your trading.

My job is to help spot the good from the bad so you can be steered in the correct direction to trading well.

In this article, I’m going to reveal some stupid advice that you may hear to help you avoid from making the wrong choices…

Let’s go.

Stupid #1:
Go big or go home

You may here this statement from your friends or even from the voice inside your head.

Whether you’re in a losing streak or you took one whopper of a loss.

It’s very easy to want to fight back and claw your losses.

How you ask?

By taking the reverse position, increasing your size and hoping for the best.

This is where your ego takes over and you forget your good money management rules that you have been programmed to follow.

Instead, you get into an undefined and impromptu trade. You don’t calculate your take profit and you certainly don’t think of even putting in a stop loss.

This is a dangerous way of thinking. Remember, trading is a LONG term journey to consistent profits. You want to follow a strategy that you know works.

So, don’t listen to stupid advice of GO BIG OR GO HOME.

In the end you will end up going home and blowing your account.

Stupid #2:
The next trade will be better

No.

We never know whether a trade will be a winner or a loser. Hence, we place our stop loss in every trade we take.

We can’t predict how the trade will play out because of numerous factors that drive the market.
Price, demand and supply, fundamental analysis, algorithmic changes and new position sizes coming in.

You know when a trade is the best? At the entry.

If you followed your rules exactly and you follow your strategy, you’ve done the BEST you can do.

A trade never gets better than that.

#Stupid #3:
Follow your heart

Does this trade feel good?
Do you have a good feeling about this trade?
Do you believe the universe will reward you with this trade you take?

Forget it. Cut out the emotions, feelings and instincts!

You need to stop with the expectations of trades. Either it will hit your take profit or stop loss, period.

No market knows you, cares about you and there is no financial angel who is looking down on you telling you the future of a market.

If that was the case, we’d have millions of successful traders without strategies.

The market is a cold, calculated and probabilistic entity – think like the market and you’ll have some chance of winning.

#Stupid #4:
Everything happens for a reason

Another esoterical approach to why you lost money.

Because of karma, because of your friends wishing bad on you, because of some curse.

Come on… You are in the financial market den of demand, supply and probabilities.

We are bound to win some, lose some, rinse and repeat.

Only reason you should have is what your proven strategy tells you, when and what prices.

#Stupid #5:
Work harder and you’ll win more

Financial markets has no correlation to working hard and profiting more.

Sometimes, the more you trade and are in the market – the higher the chances you’ll blow your account sooner.

Rather think and work smart, choose trades carefully and grow your account on a slow and consistent basis…

15 minutes a day is all you need for analyses and trading. Unless you’re an intraday trader, but that is different cattle of fish to deal with.

6 Rules of Successful Traders

I’ll tell you this.

The money you desire, is not going to just fall into your lap.

If you want to be a successful trader, you need to write down the ground rules to get your ass into gear.

I can’t profess for every professional trader, but I can share with you my rules I’ve been following for the last 2 decades.

Feel free to write them down for your trading.

RULE 1: Always have a trading plan

This is a must.

The financial markets are dangerous. Once you enter them, you are playing with the big boys.

If you go in blindly or naked (without risk levels in place), prepare to be caught with your pants down.

You need your game plan in front of you at all times.

There needs to be criteria you’ll follow from when you switch on your computer to when you close it.

RULE 2: Don’t procrastinate

Trading is like waiting for the next train.

Wait too long and you’ll miss your train. You’ll then have to wait an unnecessary extended period of time for the next one.

When your trading plan fires a signal – FIRE.

When your trading plan fires an adjustment move – FIRE.

You are only fooling yourself, if you don’t act when you need to.

RULE 3: Be patient

There are two important factors to patience.

First, never rush into getting into a trade for the thrill, excitement or revenge!

Second, never rush at getting out of a trade if it has not hit one of your trading levels.

Patience is where you will grow your portfolio.

Say that out loud…

Patience is where you will grow your portfolio.

RULE 4: Take the trade

If I made a T-Shirt I think I would have one just saying.

“Just take the trade”

If all is lined up and ready to go. It doesn’t matter what fundamental factor or news event is going on. It doesn’t matter how you’re feeling or that you have a headache.

Just take the trade when your plan tells you to.

It will take you 30 seconds.

Then close your laptop and go rest.

RULE 5: Keep learning

With technology advancing, financial instruments changing, market dynamics shifting and with the world evolving…

You need to keep learning and updating your knowledge base.

You never know if the new developments, will lead to a higher win and success rate. You never know if your system and trading will be optimised and maximised to a better performance,

The onus is on you to keep up with learning…

RULE 6: Don’t give up

We all have our own time lines with trading. We are all on our own journeys, challenges and struggles.

You only lose when you quit.

So please, I beg you, don’t give up and you will thank me later…

Let’s sum up the 6 rules quickly for you…

1.    Always have a trading plan
2.    Don’t procrastinate
3.    Be patient
4.    Take the trade
5.    Keep learning
6.    Don’t give up
